Emirates ID photo requirements

  • Recent colour photo, face straight on and centred
  • Eyes open and visible, mouth closed
  • Plain white background, even light, no shadows
  • No glare or tinted glasses
  • Religious head coverings generally accepted with the face fully visible

New card or renewal

For a new Emirates ID or a renewal you upload the photo in the ICP application or hand it in at a typing centre. If the screen states its own file limits, follow them. Applying for a visa at the same time? Use the UAE visa photo – the rules are the same.

Can I use the same photo for my visa and Emirates ID?

The photo rules are the same, so the same photo usually works for both, as long as it is recent.

What background does the Emirates ID photo need?

A plain white background. We replace your background automatically.

How much does it cost?

Checking your photo and the watermarked preview are free. The finished photo costs $7.99 once and includes the digital file and a 4 × 6 in print sheet. No subscription.

What if the office rejects my photo?

If an official passport office, embassy or consulate rejects the photo because it doesn’t meet a photo requirement, we refund the full price. Email us within 30 days with your order number and the rejection notice.
